LSD Won’t Spin when carrier bolts tightened

Just finished replacing pinion seal and bearings. Everything is put back in the same way it came out (new crush washer), everything was marked on how to put it back together. It spins nicely until I tighten the carrier bolts down then the diff binds up and won’t turn at all. Any ideas? I’m a bit lost now on how to move forwards with this.

You have shims on both sides still, right?

      2 possibilities-

you're missing a shim, as SPDFRK says, and when you tighten the bearing carrier down, it binds the bearings.

you swapped sides with the shims, and now the pinion's jamming into the ring gear and locking it up.

Not a whole heck of a lot else to go wrong...

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

If you replaced the pinion bearings, the pinion could also be farther into the diff, interfering with the ring when you tighten everything. Did you measure the pinion bearing thicknesses and the pinion depth before and after?
