More and more V8 swaps, that's cool! :)

Check out Garey's build - http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96824 . I asked him about his mounts, here is what he told me "2. When I made the mounts, I mocked up the motor with 3/4" clearance between the pan and subframe, I have made 3/4" aluminum spacers for the subframe to unibody to gain a little extra clearance and get the motor to sit level. It clears everything without the spacers, but I wanted the extra clearance."
Here is a build on bfc (although I really don't like his way of mounting the engine) - http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1366630 good for some nice booster relocation pics.
And also gregslow318i on this forum got m60 in his car as well

Yeah, I think the 530i 5 speed is the way to go. 6 speeds are pretty hard to find for less than a grand, although it was nice getting 30mpg on the highway with the 2.93 in my 540i. As for flywheel options, I've driven an e34 6 speed with a JB racing flywheel and it was fantastic, such a huge upgrade over the 32 lb dual mass (I think the jbr was 11lb)
I really want to avoid subframe spacers, but the only swaps I've seen so far required them. Are there any mounts available for purchase at this point? I've never looked into making engine mounts but it can't be too terribly difficult.

Subframe spacers aren't necessary (good), all depends on the mounts :)
I priced the 530i 5speed and they are going for about 1/2 the price of the 6speed and provide more flywheel/clutch choices (as you mentioned above due to size).
I would do an ls1 but not legal in SM.

I'll be watching this thread, I'm interested to see what everyone is doing for engine mounts, subframe spacers etc.. I'm debating either this or an lsx swap somewhere down the road. I love the m60/2 though. Are you planning on using a 5 speed, 6 speed or just whatever you stumble upon? Keep in mind the e34 6 speeds used larger clutches and flywheels, 265mm vs 240mm in all of the e39's.
Pretty sure you can use an auto harness also, that's probably going to be your best bet because there were only ~1350 e34 6 speeds imported, so finding manual harnesses is going to be a bitch

ENGINE BLOCK NUMBERS
"How do you tell which material is in your short block ? That part is fairly easy. But it requires getting under the right front of the car. All M60 and M62 blocks have casting numbers on the right side, directly alongside the 3rd cylinder, slightly above the coolant drain bolt.
These are the casting numbers to look for:
Nikasil M60B30 1 725 970 or 1 741 212
Nikasil M60B40 1 725 963 or 1 742 998
Alusil M60B30 1 745 871
Alusil M60B40 1 745 872
Alusil M62B44 1 745 873

I got the maf housing today from another 740i, the first one was cracked :)
This 93 740i was missing the whole engine/tranny, must have been a good one.

should have grabbed the whole maf as its a 3.5 not a 3 and the sensor is calibrates to the orifice

I think I might be first in line to buy the M30. Didn't I ask about it first?

If I end up selling it it will be a complete package, at the point I am not sure what will happen to it :)

I understand that it will be a while, I'm not in a hurry. Your motor is conveniently refreshed, though.

It will be a while before it happens, I plan on getting all the things needed for the swap and of course re-fresh the v8 before it goes in.
about 300hp in 2500lb should be fun hehe :)
