Garey - you mean e39 manifolds right? 96-99 will work or are they the same as 99-03?

re: driver side mount, it seems that you can keep it on there and just modify it, look at the 300mm.de picture

Never thought of tapping the block... I was going to source the E39 remote filter setup and use that, but this would be better and less expensive... I'll do it this way... what size tap, Lol?

Do you have any pictures of drawings showing where on the block you mounted yours, what manifolds are you using again?
Jean, use the E39 540 mounts... they're cheap enough, plentiful and they work with no mods to them other than length. When I fabbed those mounts up, I had them and the heads bolted to the block for clearances...

Seems like some nikasils actually dyno better too... it's probably a none issue at this point as well.

Anyway, I looked at some 300mm.de stuff, and will try going this route. Looks like the just cut/modified the stock driver side mount to make room for the e30 mount.

    and the passenger side

Passenger side, after removing the stock mounting arm..

stock passenger side mount... i honestly had no idea it was this huge as we were hoping to use it's one side to make a perfect template for mounting points/shape... DOH

Spent some time yesterday with a friend of mine working on the mounts. I may need to change these a little bit, we'll see. The passenger stock engine mount is HUGE, and it also holds the A/C compressor. The driver side is even bigger PITA as it has oil filter housing lines going through it.

Now, there are two ways (at least) that i've seen people go when mounting these engines. One way is by keeping the stock m60 engine arms, and welding custom arms to the chassis frame rails...So basically engine is not mounted to the e30 subframe..

Second way is the usual, make the custom mounts, remove the stock mounts and let the engine sit on the front subframe.

The issue I need to resolve now is to figure out the following:

    a) what to do with the driver side stock engine arm, since it's oil lines go through it
    b) just how much more room x5 manifolds will provide vs stock e32/e34 v8 manifolds.
    c) best mounting points on the stock block for the custom mounts.

    Anyway, on to some pics.

bmwmech (Garey's) mount is painted, and a test mount me and a friend of mine spend some time last night making. Once I can confirm clearance it can be re-done cleanly etc... it's just a rough "draft" if you want to call it that.

Before removing the passenger side mount, ac compressor.

Here is the passenger side mount/ac mount/compressor

Here you can see the driver side mount with the oil lines...

[QUOTEOrganicMechanic;2376621]who you all using for mounts? How much?[/QUOTE]

I made them, then Jean asked me if he could use them to make his set from, so I sent them to him to make copies and as soon as his guy is done copying them, he's sending them back to me...
