The same S5D-310Z (320Z?) that everyone else is talking about. They were used in '94 & '95 E34 530i. They just have the V8 bellhousing pattern on the front.

What "kit" did you get? What's in it?

So be careful that your transmission will support the engine management you choose.
I already grabbed a 5 speed, so I'll have to modify the bellhousing to include the crank sensor for my S62 swap.

Also, check out www.car-parts.com for ANY used OE part you might want for swaps like this.
Hello Dark Side. What 5 speed are you using for a s62 swap? I have an e30 m3 with a s52 right now. Bought myself a s62 kit several months ago. I would like to shave any pounds I can + try to make the swap as simple as it can get.

Yeah I was trying to find out the difference in exterior dimensions (length) and weight between the S65 and M62 just out of curiosity. Couldn't find much useful info on that.
But I did find out that they have the same cylinder spacing(center to center).

I looked on www.car-parts.com and found one with 78K miles for $250 within driving distance... Application is '94-'95 530i

I bought a 94 530i, running, but no title car from Virginia to get mine. Cheap and I was able to verify the transmission's condition before I parted out the rest of the car that I didn't need. Made 3 times what I paid for the car, selling off the parts and got the stuff I needed for free... this is a good way to get stuff, if you have the time and space to make it work. Since I own a shop, it's doable... I realize that it doesn't work for everyone though...

Thank you! Mine was 110lbs dry, yeah I'll stick with 5speed plus it's smaller in terms of fitting it in the e30.

Wonder what the gas mileage difference would be with the extra overdrive gear, given that all other things remain unchanged. It would have to be 3-4 mpg to be worth the extra associated cost / labor, IMO. And I don't see that happening...
