Could just run stock suspension with sticky tires. Or a soft rear setup would def hook up better on launch.

it's all gonna be inferior to a solid rear axle as far as launching iirc.

why arent you a fan of these motors? From what i hear and see is reliable 300 hp

speaking as a hard core fan, one may not be a fan because of the complexity and required maintenance on these motors.

That said, the M60B40 is worlds simpler/easier than say an M62TUB44, and they are also ridiculously plentiful. You can get three for the price of one S50.

"Stock" E30 V8's with M60 engines make around 13.5 - 14.5 1/4 mile times depending on the suspension and driver. So that's roughly the scale..
              - E34 M5 (x 2) -
              - E30 V8 Cabrio "Kylpyamme" -
              - Alpina D10 Touring #33/94 -

              +
              - E46 318i Touring -
              - Toyota Hiace 4wd -

^^ that isn't terribly fast. Probably deceptively so, as I think M60 E30s are generally faster than E46 M3s.

Wow, that seems the same or slower than a S50/S52 swapped e30

It will be faster then 14's. I ran 14.4@96 with my 180whp torqueless m50. Hell I ran a 14.6@94 in my 145whp m20 e30 (2500lb). I'm guessing my m60 car will be about 13.5@103 with a typical 2.2 60' (I suck). Depends on weight, track, driver, gearing, etc... but if an e34 540i/6 can run low 14's at ~100, there's no reason a 500lb lighter e30 won't be considerably faster.

I would even venture to say that with proper tire compound, diff, and suspension, you may break into the 12s, especially if you are running a frankenbuild motor w/ ~330bhp.

Also, JGood, I believe an E30 at ~2500 lbs is more like 1000lb lighter than an E34 540i. Wikipedia puts the E43 curb weight at 3450 lbs. a 1000lb difference is huge.

The last car my current engine is in ran high 11's, but that car weighed ~1000lbs more or so, so, assuming my car can get grip, I should at least be low 11's.

                        Oh. Wait, m60's? Whoops :)

                        Go here be happy!

Exactly...e34s are PIGS... 540i and M5 are the heaviest of the bunch!!! 3500-3800LB!!!! You can easily get an e30 with full interior to be 2500lbs or so with M60 under the hood :) The problem is getting it to hook up....WIIIIDEEE tires.

They don't thrill me like an old pushrod V8 would. I don't think they're bad but just they're lacking something. The BMW inline sixes are a different story.

Tell me I will be under that.... I just don't think it will happen. Mine full interior/spare tire/stereo everything was 3000lbs with a full tank of gas. If I can get to 2500 or under, I might pee myself a little.

My E30 at the moment has

                                1. No interior save one driver's seat and dash
                                2. No AC
                                3. No PS
                                4. Nothing in the trunk
                                5. No speakers/stereo equipment at all\
                                6. No cat converter

ok, I am borrowing at cat atm to pass emissions, but my regular exhaust has no cat. I think I am around 2300 lbs or less. Currently my E30 is M20 powered, but hypothetically an M60 + ZF 5-speed doesn't weigh much more than the M20 drivetrain.

That said, I am M60 swapping my E28, not my E30. My E28 is a grey market 520i at 2700 lbs curb weight factory, and I plan on not having AC or cats, but I will be keeping the PS and stereo system. I suspect that car will stay near 2700 lbs. Iwould also venture to guess that the M20B20 weighs MORE than an M20B25, since it is the same block with smaller cylinder bores, so more iron.
