Ugh you guys arent helping me with my "problem". Now im changing my search parameters from s50/2 to M60. Im a sucker for v8's always have been. My question is how does the rest of the car feel with the added weight? Does it take away from its ability in the corners or add to it?sigpic

^^^I feel even with the S50/2 the added weight over the front detracts from it's rotation, even with corrected springs... Not that it can't be dialed out or is slower/faster, but I prefer the handling of an E30 with a 4 pot up front. Of course corner balancing and tossing weight out can fix all of this... I just really prefer a 50/50 weight distribution, or closer to mid engine cars. Mine comes darn close to 55/45...but I do quite well locally AutoXing it. I just drive around the front end more.Last edited by R3Z3N; 09-15-2012, 01:27 AM.Comment

I lost about 35 lbs going from an m50 to the m60. Granted, while I was doing the swap, I rebuilt the car and did get rid of the interior sound deadening. But I went from 2720 to 2685. Same scales were used.Comment

There is some serious M6x hate going on in this thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=887016
granted, they are talking about an E36, but surely the swap has to be easier in an E36 than an E30?Comment

Not at all.
The m6x in an e36 would require a custom oil pan and pump/pickup setup, custom headers, etc...
Alpina made them, it's called the Alpina B8 4.6. They used the 4.6 that came in the X5 4.6i, a 350 bhp bored, stroked, cammed version of the m62b44.
Don't get any ideas, the engines are rare to find and $$$.Comment

My friend built E36 V8, helped him quite a lot with the project.
Couple of pointers;
+Brake assembly can remain stock, no changes required
+E36 has better suspenion geometry than E30
-Oilsump and oil pump need to be relocated
-The frame rails are more narrow in E36 than in E30
-Height on engine bay is smaller in E36 than in E30 (especially the frontmost part)
-Front stabilizer interferes with oil sump
-Steering rod / shaft interferes with exhaust manifolds
Can be done, sure, but it's not a "walk in the park" :)- E34 M5 (x 2) -

^^ yeesh. Well I'll have to relay this info to my buddy w/ the E36. It's funny that the E36 has less engine bay space than the (smaller) E30 does. Just from observation it seems that way as well, but I never verified that, until now of course.
Ok, so does the E28 have the same or more bay space than the E30? I would assume more...Comment

Well you guys have talked me out of an M/S5x swap. I think it will probably end up being small block ford for me.sigpicComment

Also, here's a call out to all you hybrid M60B44 people. What are your findings? Worth the added effort? Reliable and viable?sigpic
