So I got the pre tapped m12x1.5(oil temp) and m14x1.5(coolant temp) sensors from a junked e30 tstat housing, finished and cleaned them, then sent them off to a machinist to have the bungs welded to the parts.

    It's aluminum and I can't tig.

Some more pics. Including the tapped sensors for oil temp and coolant temp.

As much as I want to be done in 2 weeks, I don't see it happening. I think mid late August it's more realistic. The exhaust headers will be very challenging since in using the 4-2-1 style headers instead for better flow and upgrading to dual 2.5"tube.

Either way, I will post updates soon. All of my recent work had been wiring related, so it's been boring. Here are a couple pics of the harness I've been constructing and testing thoroughly...Click image for larger version

I'm definitely looking forward to reading through your swap thread! Always great to read someone who puts a spin on a similar swap.

You must read through the entire swap write up carefully. I'm using the lightweight flywheel kit from uuc. It's is originally equipped for the s62, but I used it for my m60 swap at the time. With that being said, the flywheel had the teeth necessary for crank position. Now that I am doing s62, the flywheel is compatible and works in this application. As you can see, I modified the transmission to accompany the crank sensor.

Now according to your logic and having proven you on your one comment, my swap is perfect!!

Cheers! Nice info on your swap. I'm in the middle of the same swap, but taking a different approach.
The only glitch in yours is that it appears you're trying to use the same flywheel you were using on the m60, which has no inductive pick-up for the crank sensor... good luck with that!
I'm using the complete M5 drivetrain (engine, gearbox, driveshaft and diff)... complicates things a bit, but :)
I guess I'll open a thread on the swap once completed, as there isn't that much info on s62 swaps out there.

We can already do the s65 and s85 motors plug n play. They are however a fair bit more complex, both physically and digitally. Our S65 Pacakges start from £3000 if anyone is interested. The setup utilises the original management just like our s54 and s62 kits.

Ps. M3 euro ltw, Pm received. Im away from my laptop at the mo so will get some info across asap ;)

    Thanks

He's right. The S62 and S54 have similar looking throttle actuators but the S54 does have the dual TPS setup.

I think you appreciate the ease of the e46 gas pedal.

No, I did actually mean that the S54 has a TPS on its DBW motor and on the TB assembly.

Look closely at the S62, and there is no TPS on the DBW motor. Instead there is one on each TB assembly. Still two TPS... but no back up on the DBW motor...just one for each bank.

If it was critical to watch TPS on the motor AND on the TB assemblies, they would have retained a third TPS for the motor on the S62 I guess....

I'm not sure how specific the error codes for the S54 are... but one could imagine one that is "Broken mechanical connection between DBW motor and throttles". They would know the motor is functioning properly from its TPS... but not see movement at the TPS on the throttles.

On the S62 if the pair of TPS don't move at all, the problem could be in a variety of places, electrical around the DBW, or mechanical to the TB assemblies. Its just a little less data available to trouble shoot.

No implied criticism, this is just an unusual difference. I don't know much about the S65 other than a pair of DBW motors, one for each bank.

Of note is an interesting feature the S54 has that the S62 lacks.

The DBW motor in the S54 has a TPS, AND there is one along the axis of the actual TB. This gives the DME a chance to make sure there is a back up or safety TPS in place, and any discrepancy is presumably going to put you in limp mode.

The S62 also has two TPS sensors... but there is one for each bank in the case of the S62...nothing on the DBW motor. The similar architecture really points to the two platforms being developed simultaneously....

Interestingly enough on the S65 there are a pair of dbw motors which is more complex, and some standalones may not accommodate that as easily.

So Turk... how long before you can reflash for that S65 for us? That would be sweet.
