    V8 Swap Headers

    Hmm.....

Am I smoking something, or do those appear to be relatively "affordable" E30 swap headers?

Yeah, just your regular 540 chinese headers... still, better than OEM. Buddy of mine bought them, still needs a bit of adaptation to fit, and the welds only look good on the outside. Oh, and they were certainly NOT German made....
I'd rather buy these and save some money

Well, that answers that question. At the very least, it was worth asking.

Edit: And yeah, for $300, that does look worth investigating. Even if I have to cut the shit out of them, I still couldn't buy the materials for less than that.

A lot of money, but interesting if plug and play. Not very interesting if not, that's for sure.

I think, or want to remember frank getting a set of these. I didn't follow up to see if he ever fitted them or is running them...

I do remember something about having to hammer the shit out of the passenger foot well to get them to fit now that i think about it. :?

Anyone confirm the fit on these? Worth it?

Doesn't seem like any headers truly work and have decent flow. I'm looking at just having some headers built locally at a race shop.

I ordered up a set of the OBXes. They'll require a lot of work, but it's not like I could buy the material off the shelf for less than that.

Frank modded his OBX headers to fit in his s62 e30. IIRC his passenger side bolted right on, just required beating the shit out of the footwell (or you could just re-angle the pipes downward). The drivers side obviously needs significant reworking.

I was considering just chopping the flanges off of my m60 manifolds, ordering some 1-5/8" mandrel bends, and making my own. But you're right, for the price of the OBX headers, it's probably easier/cheaper to modify them. And they are a decent design, definitely a big improvement over then m62tu manifolds.

Don't forget to do an X pipe... these are crossplane crank engines.

And on the plus side, while they are cut apart, I can at least clean up what I'm very confident are some incredibly shitty merges on the inside.

Edit: FWIW, I found them for $250 ($275 shipped). I was thinking about building fully custom as well, but when I did some quick and basic pricing, I was already over $500 and I wasn't done. I'll obviously need some bits and pieces to finish this, but....

And yeah, an x-pipe is very much in the plans. After that, I'm hoping to run the stock M5 cats to make it easy to pass emissions.

Not having to redo my exhaust to pass emissions is worth it, IMHO. Especially since I will have a whopping 45 days to do that once I decide to tag it.

Those headers look nice if they fit without too much work, especially for under $400 shipped. Still working on my swap and gathering the last parts (hopefully) that I need.
