Definitely either an LSD or weld the diff, and I don't know much about drag racing but I'd guess you'd want all the weight transfer to the rear that you can get. So soft springs and some sort of drag shock for a Camaro I'd imagine.

      My ~260whp/260wtq m60 e30, at 2700 lbs, ran a 13.28 @ 103.5 with a 1.92 60' (that's zero wheel spin, a damn good launch for street tires). I'm running a ZF310 with a 2.93 LSD.

Did you dyno the car to get those numbers? That should be a high 12s car. Gearing hurting you?

My Northstar Fiero at 255/265 and 2900# WITHOUT me ran 12.86 @ 106.
Fieros hook hard, but I would have expected an M60 E30 at least to beat me in trap speed.

Its probably the gearing. A 2.93 doesnt seem necessary for an m60. But thats just me.

Gotta remember he's running a 5 speed transmission. A 2.93 may be very necessary if he drives lots of highway daily but takes the car to the dragstrip 2 or 3 times per year. If he had a 6 speed, I could understand having shorter gearing.

The car wasn't dyno'd yet, but 99.9% of m60's put down within a few hp of that number.

I don't know what to say. My car walks away from my buddies obd-1 s52 e30, and it's common knowledge that that's a 240whp setup.

Uhh, I'm already turning 3k @ 70mph. When I had a 3.25 I was turning 3.5k at 75. I do 80 highway miles/day in this car. I'll take the 1/10 second hit on my 1/4 mile time for some practicality.

I didnt have any mean incentives with that post! I just meant purely from a 1/4 mile standpoint, which first of all isnt the main focus of most e30s, there are probably better options and the 2.93 is probably the only reason why the above mentioned fiero was faster. I can 100% understand the choice if you daily drive the car on the highway. I would absolutely go for the smallest ratio i could get away with if I was driving 80 highway miles a day.

Haha, sorry, my post kinda came out harsher than intended. I do agree, some shorter gearing would definitely help in the 1/4.

This thread gives me a headache...I'm all about the v8 swaps but some of you guys are making crazy claims on 1/4 mile runs.......on a car that was never developed to run in a straight line. There is no logical explanation.....or "internet calculator" that will tell you what your 1/4 mile time will be based on hp/weight......sorry.

                        #Jgoods car is sexy.

Agreed that the e30 was never supposed to go in a straight line... but that doesnt mean it cant. If you do the right suspension work, and put some wide sticky tires out back there is no reason in hell that any of the claims made in this thread cannot be met.

Probably the most outrageous claim was mine of a mid to low 10, which is not crazy at all. Will it be difficult? Probably. Will the build be able to hook right off the bat? Probably not, but you better believe that I'll figure it out at some point. There may not be a "calculator" for 1/4 mile times, but there is no way that a 600rwhp/600rwtq e30 doesn't crack 10s once traction is figured out. It's not rocket science.

Jay's 600whp turbo s52 e30 cracked 10's. 10.9@134 if I remember correctly. Although he had to cut the rear half of the car out, install a heavily modified corvette C4 IRS with a viper diff, and tub it to fit 315's. I think the car was good for mid 10's, maybe more. At that point the driver becomes a key component as well.

I may have missed this but what trans is being used with the M60 swap?

On my LS M3 Im running a 3.91 diff but that is with the t56. The stock 3.15 didnt feel right especially with the double overdrive gears in the t56

I'm not arguing that. I know some very quick e30s........goodntight broke 10s with a turbo m30. What I'm saying is this:

"260hp should be an easy 12 second car"

Based on what!? Listen, I love high hp, I love going fast, and I was a striaght line drag racer long before e30s got into my blood. but lets make logical statements, hp does not have a direct correlation to how fast itll be.

I have no doubt you can reach low tens, there is a white m3 something or other touching 9s.......jump over the pond and the Nords are making us look like wined up matchbox cars.

I think eurotrash said it, 302 (v8) are fun...not fast. you have to take the trans gear, diff, wheels diameter, grip suspension blah blah blah into consideration. anyways you understand what I'm saying.

                                Carry on.
