M62b44 relocating crankshaft position sensor HELP!

Hi guys! I have couple questions. Someone knows me, but who don't i introduce myself... i have e30 with m62b44tu from e38 2001 740Li. I run this engine on stock dme and my question is: should i relocate the cps from transmission bellhousing to front crankshaft pulley? Yes i know i must use m60 crankshaft pulley/damper/trigger and weld mount for cps (its not a problem) but will it works with donor dme? Or i need to replace dme for 404 one?

Thanks a lot for your answers :) have a nice day

I don't think you're going to be able to run that engine with a 404 DME because of the vanos. Seems you'd want to run the original wiring harness with the sensor in the bell housing, along with the original DME. Someone please correct me if that's not the case.

If you are running the stock DME and harness why would you want to move the crank position sensor to the front of the engine? It should already be setup for the bellhousing.

You will not be able to get the 404 DME to fire the tu engine as far as I know.

From what I've been able to determine they are both 60-2 trigger wheels. I would think that as long as the lacking tooth arrives at the correct time, you should be good to go with the DME from the TU engine. Anyone know that to be incorrect?

Now, if I'm correct about that, the next trick would be to ensure that the missing tooth on the small front pulley wheel is timed correctly to what the flywheel missing teeth would be. I may be able to get you a measurement for that on my non-TU m62b44, but it won't be for weeks probably. Hopefully someone can help you sooner than I can.

I'd be very surprised if it worked correctly without throwing codes, if at all, with the OBD-II DME using a front mounted CPS . The reason BMW moved it to the flywheel is because of OBD-II regulations, individual cylinder misfires had to be accurately monitored, and the front trigger wheel doesn't provide precise enough measurement due to the rubber in the damper.
