To V8 or not to V8

So Ive been interested E30s for quite some time now but haven't had the extra cash OR time to get into one. But a little while back I got a hold of a good deal I couldn't pass up. I roamed these forums getting info and ideas. When I saw you guys doing BMW V8 swaps in E30s, I thought that Id totally like to do that. Lets see how this unfolds.

Ill try and put as many pics as possible. To warn you all of them are cell pics.

Heres the first e30 I obtained. An 87 4 door 325e. Body is in pretty good shape and so is the interior. The dash is long gone though. The big plus is that the previous owner had began buying parts for a V8 swap and they were included in the purchase. Some bimmer manuals in the seat included too!

Just brought home. Front end parts in trunk. Man these bumpers look like they stick out more than when I bought it! oh well lets change that.

Just picked up this new craftsman drill press off CL for my mini shop.

Took the bumper shocks(or whatever they're called) off and drilled some holes to let the pressure out. Collapsed them and welded. This pushed the bumper in about 2".

    And with front put together.

FYI The actual time frame of this thread will be off like a mug then eventually catch up.

Some of the things that came with the car. Garagistic headers/mount brackets/frame spacers/wilwood bracket, Aeromotive FPR, Wilwood pedal/cylinder assembly

Garagistic M60/M62 E30 headers. I think Im going to make my own though. Wasn't fond of where the vbands sat. Think Im going to sell these.

Aeromotive FPR. Going with different fittings and lines though.

    Wilwood setup

Garagistic motor mount brackets. Were painted red but Im going a different color. Here stripped.

Couple of months later I run across this

Ive always wanted a 2dr so I go check it out and the next thing I know we're making a deal. Then Im driving it home. Then its in my driveway! Turns out there was a line of people wanting to go see it and I happen to get there first. Thats CL for ya.

Heres a pic of almost to her new home. Drove home just fine. Just a couple of issues. Clunking from a bad driveshaft bearing and an erratic idle while standing. Other than that its in pretty good shape. And cold AC, a must for Texas weather!

Thats my kiddo starting to do his X-Men trick of disappearing.

Now theres a new game plan. Im going to get "Blanco" running right while I collect parts for the build. Started with the center driveshaft bearing. Man that was a pain getting off. I need a lift!

I marked the driveshaft before sliding apart so hopefully the balance isn't thrown off and a pic of new bearing on.

And a pic of driveshaft assembled about to go back in.

No mo clunking fo this guy!

Now messed with the engine and the fluctuating idle. Heres a vid. Lets see if it works.

Ive checked everything I could find on the net. Checked for unplugged hoses, cracked lines, all the tests on the ICV(checked before and after cleaning, all WNL), gaskets,...etc etc Sprayed starting fluid no changes

Only thing that seem out weird was some fine cracking in the intake boot and maybe the hose to the ICV... So ordered some new ones

Few days later got a package in the mail!... Notice the foot print on the box haha

                And the goods..

Did a check on the TPS and it was out of spec so got that also.

                Time to install some misc

                    Thanks E30whore

On another note- You guys might think some of the things Im gonna do might be corny or whateva but thats how I roll... Starting with this haha

Bought some yellow film to put on my headlights and fog lights. Just didn't feel like spending the cash on some actual yellow glass parts to maybe change my mind later... With and without film, don't mind the tow hook haha.... Came with no lip and some missing clips-ordered them.

Some parts came in. IS spoiler, rear strut bar, emblems, lip/clips

Check that jacked spoiler. Box and spoiler(that I was gonna paint) all bent up. Going back.

Here it is with the film and new lip/clips. I liked this lip a little more. Looks a little off to me with IS lip cause it hangs lower than the rest of the car. Just my view.

My partner in crime helping me install the new knock off emblem.

Also the before and after of the installation of the antenna thinga-ma-jig.

Is it me or does it seems like my pics are coming out pretty big?

Got some parts. Lights, LEDs, leather shift boot, inner shift rubber

Old one taken off, new one on

Some installed, old and new LED. Background lighting throws it off but LED is a lot brighter

Had to change this bracket also. I broke it take old dome light out. Went under the headliner.

And the boot, was tore up, ripped off the bracket and gorilla super glued. Clamped in place while drying.

                        New boot on!

Went ahead and change the light in the glovebox with an LED and freshened up the cigarette lighter. Also removing the aftermarket radio wiring to put in a stock radio and fixing the clock.

                          Good enough for me haha
