    AC Pressure too High and question about fan shroud

    My AC stopped working and I have been trying to fix it, but I am facing multiple issues and need some help. The pressure in the system is too high and the system cycles on and off frequently.

    Here is the background:
    The A/C worked in the past but there was some leakage. When I took to an AC shop they identified that there was some leakage through the compressor. I decided to do a major overhaul in the system and I followed the A/C conversion thread from the DYI portion of the forum.

    This is what I've done:
    I have sent the Nipodenso Compressor to be rebuilt by Polar Bear in Ft Lauderdale. They have good reviews from different forums/threads. They told me the compressor failed likely due to a combination of contaminated oil and temperature. Before reassembly back in the car, I followed their instructions to drain the Oil they used for testing and replaced with new Oil as per specs (8 oz of PAG 46)
    I have replaced the Condenser by the Nissens Parallel Flow.
    I have replaced the Drier from the previous configuration of 2 Pressure Switches to 1 High Pressure Switch (with a replaced new switch) following the BMW document.
    I have replaced the Expansion Valve.
    I have NOT replaced the Fan, nor the Evaporator.
    I flushed the lines and the evaporator using a AC cleaner spray can.

    The problem:
    After putting the car back together, I took it to the AC Shop again and they charged it and checked for leaks. There was a small leak at one of the lines that go to the Drier, they replaced the seal and that was solved.
    HOWEVER, after they charged and tested it, the pressure was really high and the system was cycling on and off continuously. I don't have the pressure value but I think (?) they said something like 300 (whatever unit?) and it should be in the high 100's/low 200's.
    They showed me that the AC Fan Shroud is missing. Based on all things I've been fixing in this car, I wouldn't doubt it that the PO removed at some point.
    They think the old AC Fan (that I have not replaced and is a genuine BMW part, although pretty old, maybe original) was not helping much and suggested I replace it. I am not sure that makes sense, but I might do it, as well.
    When I flushed the Evaporator, I did not blow pressurized air there so I wouldn't make a mess inside the car. Instead I left it open to let the flushing /cleaning fluid evaporate. I suspect it might have not evaporated entirely.

    Questions:
    Can anyone confirm there should be a Fan Shroud in the front? I checked Real OEM and it shows item 2 that I do not have on my car, but I have items 4 and 5. Should I have all three? I don't have items 3 and 6 either. What should I have there?
    Could the remaining flushing fluid in the Evaporator be causing too much pressure in the system?

    Leaving the flush in the evaporator was a major mistake. Our main parts chain at work is 4Seasons and they're number one cause of warranty on compressors is from having flush enter the compressor and wipe out the internals. You're supposed to use a 20-40psi air flush for a minimum of 30 minutes to remove all the flush from the evaporator.

    Yes you need a fan shroud, that's definitely not helping your pressures. If your condenser fan in front of the car isn't working efficiently that's also only hurting your high side pressures. Is it coming on high speed? Will it suck a rack into the valance when it's on? 300psi isn't anything all that crazy for A/C pressure pending ambient temps though.

      I thought the flush in the evaporator could be a big part of my problem.
      So, I guess I will have to have the gas sucked, open the circuit again, blow whatever is left there, remove and drain the Compressor oil, add oil again and have the gas charged. Is that what you think? Another few $$$ to the AC Shop . Argh!

      Any insights as how to know if the Fan is on High Speed vs. Low? It is on but I can't tell.

      In terms of the Fan Shroud, just to confirm, I have the Shroud on the Engine Coolant Radiator side and the two side "plastic plates" items 5 and 9 above, but nothing in between the AC Fan and the Condenser, but it really does not seem a Shroud fits in there. I am looking at some of the threads and see some do not have that item 2 either. But seem to have item 3. These Parts Catalogs are not clear. The price is not that high for item 2, but it does not seem it will fit and might be for some different model (?). Mine is a 1989 325i Convertible Auto. Last pix is mine.

        Overcharged system does what you described.

        Try to release some gas from the system and see if it is still cycling on off.

          With the evaporator flush in the car, I used some clear plastic tubing to a solvent recovery bucket. Hose clamp the tube to the evaporator fitting so you don’t spray oily crap in side the car with the compressed air.
          Reverse flushing also helps.

          The evaporator has quite a few tubes and surface area so it can hold a lot of crap in there.
          If you haven’t got all the crap out your TX valve could be blocked.

            Make sure the auxiliary fan is blowing the right direction. When I installed mine, it came as a "puller". The directions want you to reverse the blades AND reverse the wiring. I neglected the second part. And I eliminated the resistor so it came on high all the time. The AC never really cooled. Chased my tail on that for months. Finally, after rechecking everything (for the 99th time), I noticed the fan was pulling out. Reversed the wires and all is well!

            Its a wonder the car never overheated. The auxiliary fan pulling out and the engine fan pulling in!
