    e30 blower motor problems

Hello, I recently bought a 1991 318i Touring and the blower motor doesn't work on any speed. I removed the whole blower motor and found a broken connector on red wire, so fixed it. Before that I tested the motor directly from 12V battery and it worked. So after fixing the wire I put the blower motor back in and connected it, but it still didn't work. Then tested the wires and only 9V volts are coming, I supose that there should be 12V. Then I noticed that the resistor is missing. So now I don't know what to do, I don't understand how is the resistor connecting to the blower motor, because there is nothing that it connects to, only plastic holders. I have a couple of photos, before and after. So maybe someone that knows what should be there can help me, whats could be the problem that only 9V are coming, and with that missing resistor, if i buy a new one, maybe that would fix everything, but what it conects to?
    Sorry for bad english :)

A previous owner modified it but the question is why? Why modify something so simple? My guess is they didn't want to replace the resistor pack and tried to bypass it. The red wire does not belong in there. Get a resistor pack and install it the way it should be like OEM and go from there. Make sure to clean all contacts while you're in there. Goodluck.

The problem is I don't know how it is stock, but shouldn't there be 12V anyways? I cheked and through the blue wire (with red end) comes only 8V so there is a voltage drop, so maybe the wire is broken somewhere? I looked to a lot of forums and as I understand those wires come from fuse 20, so maybe there is a tear in a wire somewhere? So I tried looking, but it is imposible to see where those wires go.

And another question is, will the blower motor work without a resistor?

Yes, there should be 12v on the positive wire regardless so there is another problem as well. 12v to the fan allows it to run at full speed. The job of the resistor pack is to lower current for lower fan speeds (1, 2, 3). Speed 4 bypasses the resistor coils but still runs though a current protected circuit on the resistor pack.

The resistor plugs in at the top of the curved plastic protrusion that holds the blower motor. They're cheap, so just buy one.

For the wiring, find the appropriate wiring diagram from the website below. Make sure you save the PDF in case the website disappears.
