1984 E30 323i New Tie Rods - Lock to Lock travel limited question

On my 1984 BMW E30 323i - Had the Full tie rods replaced yesterday with new Meyle # 32111125186 Tie rods purchased from ECS tuning. Car was aligned after. Car drives great. BUT, I noticed in parking lot and driveway maneuvering the steering hits steering stop limits early !

I have to back up to get into simple parking spots, turning circle is huge now.

I only have a total of 2.5 turns Lock to Lock now ? Should have 4 turns. Are there different Tie rod ends ? Ran VIN and the BMW Factory part number is 32111126360. ECS says their part cross references with the factory part number.

Car turns 1 turn to the Left and 1.5 turns Right, This is only 2.5 total Lock to Lock. Yes off center on rack, and will be corrected. The car has slow steering and had 4 turns total before.

Any ideas ? I have the old Tie Rods and will measure them tonight.

I have an appointment at the shop for a review next week.

put the old ones next to the new ones and compare, and also check to see how much thread is available on each side. maybe they screwed one on waaay more than the other. but even then im not sure that would result in what you describe.

They def didn't center the rack but I'm not seeing how that could effect your ltl and e30 tie rods are the same for both sides. I'd check the ball joints at the knuckle to see if it's binding there. It's very possible the Meyle castings are not exactly the same as OE.

Not sure you can install these wrong but sure seems like they did

The problem was that ECS did not mention that you CANNOT use the inner tie rod lock rings they supply on tie rods. These are too large in diameter and stop the rack on the outside of the housing.

The correct e30 specific lock ring is smaller and allows the rack to travel into the rack opening. ESC was not aware of this.

My shop simply installed what they were given.

All is back in order with FOUR turns lock to lock.

Good you got to the bottom of it but jeez I would have expected a "professional" to pick up them being the wrong parts. must be quite a large locking ring if it was jamming up against the rack casing?
