Insurance Question - Will They Cover Windshield Gaskets?

Question for my fellow E30 owners... has anyone gone through the process of replacing a windshield through your insurance? If so, did the insurance pay for a new gasket and lock strip as well, or just the glass replacement?

I don't want to reuse my 30 year old rubber, and the new OEM gaskets are $300+ which stings a little bit out of pocket.

Any insights? I have Grundy BTW and I do know that glass is covered in my policy, but the person I just spoke with didn't know if the seals would be included or not.

    Thanks in advance.

When I had mine replaced I was with Geico Insurance agency and the windshield installer reused the rubber strip and locking strip and replaced the windshield only.

It will need to be submitted to the insurer with the cost of the glass for approval generally, the seal will need to be damaged from the incident that damaged the glass. If its reusable most cases the fitter will reuse it.
For a later model car the seal has to be replaced as its glued in with the screen and is destroyed when the glass is taken out. When I worked at bmw I would quite often sell a windscreen and a top seal to a repairer. So they DO do it when its required.
I guess you will need to dig your heels in with your repairer/insurer
