E30 Sunroof Rebuilt - Adhesive for Sliderail

I’m rebuilding the sunroof on my ‘91 E30 and want to know what type of adhesive was used under the slide rails (chrome pieces) to seal them to the body. Any one familiar?

When I removed them, there was a gray adhesive with a black string which I assume was factory install to aid with removal down the road. It appeared to be removable adhesive. It has me thinking it’s some sort of gasket maker.

think we just used a silicon based adhesive. pretty sure it's more for preventing water ingress. i'd have to look but i think they had counter sunk screws holding them.

Thanks, 82. I think you’re right on the water intrusion. Thanks for the input!
