Plug identification for crank position sensor/spark plug leads under diagnostic port?

As per photo, I didn't label the wires on the engine well enough when removing, I believe these two plugs are the two under the diagnostic port, one comes from the spark plug leads and the other from the crank position sensor. Is there a way to figure out which plugs into which? I can't see any of the wire colours to cross reference wiring diagrams as it's all insulated pretty good. What happens if these sensors are switched/plugged into the wrong one?

cps and cylinder id sensor. incorrect install results in a crank no start. can't remember offhand if it fucks the dme, don't think it does but i'd check first to be sure.

edit: yeah just results in a crank no start. the bigger issue is eliminating it as the source of a crank no start if you run into it on the first start up.

more edit: double check whether it fucks the dme. it doesn't destroy the cps circuitry but it might fry up the cylinder id. even if it does it generally results in a little loss of fuel mileage only.
the injectors fire in two banks of 3. without the id circuit the dme fires all 6 using a little more fuel.

Thanks. At least there's a 50% chance of getting it right!

Remembered that you can remove the boot from the back of the plug but that doesn't help all that much (?) - they're pinned out exactly the same with the same colour wires: 1: black, 2: yellow 3: clear

https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.php/ECU_Pinouts says CIS is black/yellow for Motronic 1.3, where pin 8 for CIS is black. I don't see CPS sensor mentioned there.

The only difference is one of the black wires has a yellow sheath/wrap on it that says "8", so I'm thinking that's got to be going to pin 8 on the ECU aka is for the CIS.

        How would you check that?

i always mark one of the connectors and the corresponding place it sits in the bracket. pretty sure the only danger to the dme is the cylinder id circuit. car will run without it. it might not even damage that circuit. it wouldn't the first time they got switched. there's a few threads on it.

good question. there's probably an ohm test. you should be able to check it at the connectors, main dme connection, or probably the c101, without placing the dme in any danger at all.
