    Info for my Tranny swap.

Well, my atuomagic is on its last leg, time to put in teh old 5 speed. I have all the parts I need(as my old car was a 5 speed). Its just a matter of taking it out and putting it in the new car. Anybody have a write up on this? TJ?

Nope, I think its straight forward enough. There is a small write up on www.bmwe30.net also.

Just make sure you get the pedal box from a non airbag car if your car doesn't have one, or from an airbag car if you have one.

TJ, thankfully both of the cars are non-airbag, so that isn't an issue. What do you think the hardest part of the whole swap was?

The hardest part was removing the old tranny and lining up the new one. The rest of it is cake.

I think i know why, but can you explain the reason for this, so i can be sure?

On airbag cars, the pedal box goes way up underneath the dash and it supports the back of the steering column. Without the specific box, your steering wheel will fall almost a foot down towards the floor and you will be able to move it up and down freely about a foot. I had this problem in my car. I had to make a bracket but machining part of the old automatic pedal box to make a support for the back of the steering column.
