Well ATF is Automatic Transmission Fluid, but they recommend it for manual transmissions too..
Something about the mix being good for all transmissions in general. I've yet to try it.. my transmission could use a change...1988 325iC - "Betty" - Daily Driver/Project Car.

The issue is also probably clouded by the fact that ATF is BMW spec in certain manual trans. Don't ask me which ones. I think the drain plugs on them have a projecting hex head instead of a recess for an allen wrench.
