    Gas leak

My dad filled up my 87 325is today, it is leaving giant puddles of gas everywhere. We pulled out the rear seat and found out one of the rubber lines from the fuel pump was leaking, we replaced it but the car is still leaking gas. There is a puddle on the driver's side only, and it leaks pretty quickly but I've never noticed actual puddles before, just a faint smell of gas. Is there any common leaking components that I should check out first? I would prefer not having to drop the gas tank but it seems like it is going to happen, because the inaccessibility of some of the rubber hoses above the tank.

If you can't see an obvious leak point, I think you'll have to drop the tank.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Try to pinpoint the leak location first, then we can help. It can't be that hard, track it down by smell and then by wetness. On the driver's side it's either a leaking line or it could also be the dampener - the earlier cars come with a little silver barrel thingy after the fuel filter, right before the hardline starts, which is supposed to buffer fuel pressure. These rust and leak. BMW themselves recommends to remove and bypass these once they let go.

Is the dampener also called the accumulator? I have been doing some research and I remember an "accumulator" coming up.

          Yep, that's the one.

I've just started having a fuel leak, as well. Fuel is coming out quite a bit on the driver's side in front of the rear tire. I took out the rear seat and it was even a little damp with fuel. Took off the inspection plate and the little foam gasket was covered in fuel and the top of the fuel tank has fuel all over it near the fuel level sender. I still can't quite pinpoint the exact location of the leak, has anyone had this situation or a similar one and could tell me where the leak is coming from? Thanks in advance.

any updates on fuel leak. i have about the same leak in between the frame and the tank between the fuel pump and the lines that go to the fuel filter on the driver side.
theres one rubber hose that i pulled out and checked to see if it was leaking adn was not. due to not being able to see between the frame i think its a hard line. does that mean i have to drop the tank to further diagnose the problem?

it sounds like its time to replace every rubber fuel hose on the car from the filler neck to the injectors. Dont forget the return system too! ;)

does it leak all the time or only when you have a full tank or what? I have a slight gas leak but only when its only over 3/4 full

Any of the soft lines on the top of the tank can be replaced w/o dropping the tank. Those hoses connect to hard lines that run across the top of the tank. If you have a leak on the top of the tank that isn't from a soft line or fuel pump/sensor, you will have to drop the tank to find the leak.

If any of you were wondering, there was a GIGANTIC hole in one of the rubber hoses above the gas tank. I replaced it and it stopped.

One time I had a gas leak and it was a high pressure line before the fuel filter.

It was scary as it was spewing vapors and not liquid. I feared every driver with a cigarette.
Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
                        Mark: "You never will."

Did you have to drop the tank to fix/replace the rubber hose? Or it can be done by removing the rear seat.

Im having the exact same problem, i believe its from the sending unit it self, i just picked up a new one from my buddies parts car and im waiting on a new seal then ill put it in to see if it stops the leak.
