    Oil change light reset

Does this sensor reset on its own? I changed my oil today and I was finishing up and couldn't get to my computer to check the pair of pins that needed to be connected.
But when i sat down and looked up I saw the light had turned off.

There must be a sensor in the oil filter housing or something. Someone fill me in.

I don't think it resets by itself. My oil light has been on for about a year now, with numerous oil changes since then.
Don't really know what else to tell you!

In the engine compartment there is a black round cap (left of the front of the engine standing on the driver's side) open it, put a wire in pin #19 & #7 Turn the ignition to on (just before starting the car) do not start. The inspection lights will light, when they go off (about 3 seconds) turn the key off. Any longer & you will reset the inspection interval.

      Heres the complete write up:

just an FYI, early cars have a different diagnostic connector and pins 19 and 7 don't work for the reset, that only applies for later cars. I don't know what pins work for the early ones, you can find that out easily enough if you do some searching..

Good point. pins 1 & 7 on early cars,go here:

& scroll down. It shows early cars. It doesn't say years but it does say there are 15 pins, so if you have 15 pins you are early.

                    The early type connector:

                    Diagnosis plug connections:
                    No. Terminal Designation 1 31 Ground 2 - - 3 - - 4 FT Temperature gauge 5 L Engin M10B18 Interfrator output for CO adjustment Engin M30B34 Oxygen Sensor signal 6 A Diagnosis lead for SRS 7 SI Service indicator 8 P+ Position sender 9 S Shielding 10 P- Position sender 11 50 Starting pulse for starter 12 61 Alternator charge indicator 13 1 Ignition signal 14 30 battery + 15 15 Power supply for ignition

                    The late type connector:

From the BMW NA 1989 Electrical Troubleshooting Manual for the 325i/iS:

Pin Wire Size Wire Color Circuit and Component Connected
