CAI hood vent?

this looks like some sort of vent, like on the benz greg posted. but why on the passenger side? turbo maybe? or it could be something other than a vent (sticker maybe)

Placing the vent slightly behind you CAI and having it vent out could work, alows air to flow from the front grill across the filter and out the top on the hood.

Now that sounds like it could work.

The myth of RAM AIR is exactly that. A myth. Someone did the calculations... The super cool headlight delete mod would only provide like .1bar positive pressure at something like 120mph. Same with a brake duct vent.

It wasn't even .1 bar, it was like a .2-.4 HP increase at a 100mph or something like that.

i think the hood vent idea is not that bad. If you can pull it off, i congratulate you. However, if it's going to be used for daily driving, i dont know what you're going to do about rain getting in it!

Ok, I just read ur suggestion. The funny thing is I've been thinking about this, for a while as well. I've been under my car, and looked. u can run some piping from the brake vent to the airbox, so long as u remove that plastic piece, that pushes the air to the brakes, or in my case I'm getting a modified one made up so that I can use the air, for the breaks and the airbox. I've been thining seeing as we got the metal airbox here in South Africa. I'm getting the idea of using BMC Caron Dynamics Airfilter, the best of both worlds, cone, and airbox in one. Then I was also thinking that using the stock airbox with a cut out in the bottom, and the pipe going into tht using a quality flat panel filter would work better. cause the air woulb be going straight onto the filter. I just need to organise another airbox, and the it will be a for away. Some ppl, have been telling me that u shouldn't be putting it that low to the road, but I've been looking at a lot of our track cars here, and most of them do it that way, Damn even our turbo E30's put the cone in front of the right front wheel. Another thing on the Bonnet, the vent is done by many of the guys that race their beemers here in South Africa, but it is done on both sides, and also mainly to let heat out the engine bay, but it does work, cause the filter is still recieving colder air than it would without the vent

this is the main and only reason any car should/need a hood scoop unless your force feed or a muslce car, cause well you know they rule.

as for you idea josh, i like the benz, or howabout something csl style or maybe routing air up from the brake ducts? something like bmpd did on the e36's (i don't like that company btw)

You won't gain anything worthwhile. Plenty (and I mean plenty) of air comes in through the grill, if anything just hack the hell out of the sealed portion between the slats and gain even more.
