    S38 [Big 6] conversion??? Whats the "list"???

    Whois is aware on the ont S38 conversion and what is "RALLY" needed for this swap???
    Please dont give the ol' "Search" respones :roll:

    I am really set on doin this swap overa S52 conversion so I "need" to know whatparts I need to scout out ;)


    Other then engine and related parts what Should I keep in mind on upgrading to as faras suspension and drive train??

      Everything, basicaly the M30 and the S38 swap is the same. You'll need tranny, engine, mounts, driveshaft, oilpan, and lots more. I'd say unless you had a line on a cheap S38 it wouldn't be worth it.

            dat Alpinia motorjust didnt seem right....the S38 is what I been wanting and will proppbly wait till I find it

                    The difference on a s38 and a m30 swap as far as I know is that you can't use
                    the stock brake booster, you will have to go hydrolic or ix/e21 booster.
                    You also have to beat up your firewall to make room for the exhaust manifold.

                    You will need motormounts, there are three places on the engine you can attach
                    motormounts. if you use mounting thing nr 3 the engine will be very close to the
                    firewall but you will be able to use a normal radiator and the cooling fan on the engine.
                    in mounting thing 2 you will not have space for a engine fan but i belive you can use
                    a normal radiator in nr 1 you will not have space for engine fan and you will need
                    a very thin radiator like the ones alpina used in their conversion.

                    Alpina only made mounts for mounting place 1 and 2 but you can either make mounts
                    your self for the 3rd place or buy them from www.e30.de

                    You will need to make a custom driveshaft, shorten the shift rods and a custom exhaust.

                      I have blocks, heads, camtowers, etc... to build an S38 (either 3.6 or 3.8) Won't be cheap though.

                      And I will not sell individual parts. Only an entire engine built.

                            Another thing.......What about rear end's???? I cant emagine a stock 325is rear end would hold up long :roll:

                              For the engine you have a couple options:

                              Buy a messed up M6, US version is ok but if you can find a gray market one with a Euro m88 you will be happier with power but cost and parts rise quickly.
                              I say get the M6 because you can use the transmssion as well I think.

                              you will need a custom lenght DS and completely custom shifter.

                              I think the best varient of the s38 will be from an e34, if you can find one. It has better engine management and will alreday have the oil pan you need.

                              cooling is always an issue, my friend has a m30 in his e30 and he has to run a electric fan in front of the radiator (no space on the other side) to keep it cool in the summer, even with a lower temp thermostat, but he freezes in the winter, we are workign on this lil probelm though.

                              You wil need either Alpina B6 engine brackets, or the ones from http://www.e30.de/
