What does an A/C system charge with R-12 cost?

My E30's A/C blows only very slightly cool, so I would like to take it to get the system re-charged with R-12.

    What does this normally cost?

Can you still get r12 in the US? Its been banned up here and replaced with r134a.
The system needs some work before it can be used though.

There are places that still have quanities of it. It is good till used, when that happens it's strictly R134a.

Might want to consider converting to R134a and redoing the seals while your at it. r134 will allow you to self service and not worry about system leaks so much.

I just want quick 'n' easy cold AC. I don't really want to fuck w/ the system if I don't have to.

if u feel like halfassing it u can just run 134a over the top of r12 just have to buy the retrofit kit from a parts store it will work its just not the right way to do it and it'll only cost like 50 bucks

I've seen it go for $205.00+ a pound.

How many pounds required to fill an empty system?

                Is Freeze-12 an acceptable substitute?

Not familiar with Freeze 12, is that a trade mark name?

freeze 12 works well. i used to use it in porsches all the time (134a conversions don't work very well in 911s because the condenser is so small) it seems to work best if you use 1 can of r-12 and 1 can of freeze12 in my experence

I've had 3 e30's that have been converted to r134...they never blew really that cold again.

Get Duracool. Its cheaper, more simple and its much colder than any R134 conversion. I've seen 20f at the vents with 90f outside air temp.
