I'm confused. It sounds like you started this thread to validate your own opinion rather than listen to others experience on the topic.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

btw I use Mobile1

He says the Mobil 1 is made by Champion Labs and it looks like the one I got. The Purolator filters are all very light in comparison to the Mobil 1's. I spent a lot of time looking at oil filters during several trips to pepboys and bought several over the past week.Last edited by Quailane; 08-05-2009, 02:15 PM.

No matter who is selling the bill of goods... There is no better filter than the OEM.
And just because the filter fits physically doesn't mean it will work right... Or work at all.I'm Not Right in the Head | Random Rants and other Nonsense1st Order Logic Failure: Association fallacy, this type of fallacy can be expressed as (∃x ∈ S : φ(x)) → (∀x ∈ S : φ(x)), meaning "if there exists any x in the set S so that a property φ is true for x, then for all x in S the property φ must be true".

Oh please, where do you come up with this?
I've been a BMW tech since the e30 was new.
Case in point
Some filters run from the nipple out and some from the ring in... If the bypass valve is backwards for your app the filter will just bypass the oil straight back to the engine unfiltered.

I don't know if they've changed the design, but about 10 years ago Fram filters were made with cheesy paper internal casings glued to the filter elements and thin flimsy bypass valves. the glue that held the internals of the filter would come apart, the filter element would disitegrate and bits of paper/cardboard would get sucked into your oil passages.
in a pinch I'd get a Gold filter from Napa, otherwise I order OE filters 5 at a time.

The Mahle OC49 is the ONE filter that is specifically designed (Correct bypass opperation and ADBV funtion) for the BMW M20.
And the filtering media is top quality.
