I'm confused. It sounds like you started this thread to validate your own opinion rather than listen to others experience on the topic.

No, I was curious between the Mobile 1 and Purolator PureOne. All I got was people telling me to get the OEM. I'm still not sure I made the right choice, between the two, but at least I know they are better than the OE filters.

There might be none that is the OE size, but they make plenty of filters that physically fit on the M20. The Mobile 1, K&N, and Royal Purple filters are all identical and are very distinct from any of the Purolator filters. They are for sure not made by the same people.

          Here: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html

He says the Mobil 1 is made by Champion Labs and it looks like the one I got. The Purolator filters are all very light in comparison to the Mobil 1's. I spent a lot of time looking at oil filters during several trips to pepboys and bought several over the past week.

No matter who is selling the bill of goods... There is no better filter than the OEM.

And just because the filter fits physically doesn't mean it will work right... Or work at all.

Oh please, where do you come up with this?

I also use Mobil 1. Through the reading I've done, it has come up as the best. Mann and Mahle have come up pretty good as well.

I use The Bosch for the simple fact they are easy to get and they are very well made. Anything Fram is JUNK. Here is a very in depth study of oil filters.

I've been a BMW tech since the e30 was new.

                    Case in point

Some filters run from the nipple out and some from the ring in... If the bypass valve is backwards for your app the filter will just bypass the oil straight back to the engine unfiltered.

                    fucking idiot

Ok numbnuts, let's assume I already made sure of this. So how come no filter can be better than OEM?

I don't know if they've changed the design, but about 10 years ago Fram filters were made with cheesy paper internal casings glued to the filter elements and thin flimsy bypass valves. the glue that held the internals of the filter would come apart, the filter element would disitegrate and bits of paper/cardboard would get sucked into your oil passages.

in a pinch I'd get a Gold filter from Napa, otherwise I order OE filters 5 at a time.

They could be... They just aren't.

The Mahle OC49 is the ONE filter that is specifically designed (Correct bypass opperation and ADBV funtion) for the BMW M20.

And the filtering media is top quality.

And I assume nothing about thread monkeys...
