    Leaky Coolant Near Throttle

    It's causing me idle pains. Car will idle funny and when I tap the gas, it will stutter and then rev. Also, the exhaust smells bad.

    In any case, I know it's the two hoses that connect to the coolant zone near the throttle body. The top one is leaking all sorts of coolant. However, I want to know why there is coolant in that area!

    Why does coolant flow up there to the throttle body?
    Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
    Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
    Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
    Mark: "You never will."

    Yes it does, so that the coolant can keep the throttle body from icing up in cold climates. If you live in a warm climate, you don't really need it and some even bypass the throttlebody altogether.

      O rly?

      I have to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow before work to fix it so I can get to work. I also live in North Carolina and although it's unreasonably cool for the beginning of September, I can sure as shit expect some drastic heat within five days.

      However, the leak is causing it to idle incorrectly. How would I bypass this without causing a terrible idle?
      Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
      Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
      Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."

        That leak isn't the cause of the poor idle. That is a different problem and the most likely suspect would be intake leaks, followed by old plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.
        The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          Well, I'll go through and reseal the ICV-ish area with permatex for now. It's all I can do and rather uncouth. I know. Please stop crying.

          It idles near 1200; however, it happened when the coolant leak started. That's why I put two and two together. Also, why I inquired about it, since coolant should have little effect on idle.

          In any case, I should have it all squared away by tomorrow morning... I HOPE.

              if the leak is causing idle problems it's because it's shorting out your TPS or ICV. check the wiring underneath the TB..

                That's what I thought when I couldn't get to sleep earlier this morning.
