if you haven't bought the new guibo yet:

I read somewhere that the E34's guibo will fit, but it's thicker and longer, meaning it'll last longer. You would just need longer bolts of the same kind.

      BUMP

I'll be replacing my guibo in a week or two. Would I be completetly idiotic not to replace the center support bearing while I'm in there?

Do they fail often? I don't currently feel any vibrations, and I don't feel like dealing with it... but I know I probably should while I'm in there.

When you have the driveshaft disconnected, just feel it. It it feels smooth and good, it is probably fine. If it feels rough and crappy, replace it.
You should also check your u-joints while you're in there.

Supposedly, you are just supposed to grab the harmonic balancer while the driveshaft is still connected and try to rotake it 60 degrees in either direction (according to Bentley) and it should come off. It didn't work like that for me, so I just used a box wrench to remove the nuts attaching the flex disc to the tranny. Once the driveshaft was out I removed the other three nuts (holding the flex disc to the driveshaft) and replaced the flex disc. (so I never accually removed the harmonic balancer). Be sure to use new self locking nuts. Have fun :D

The harmonic balancer is on the front of the motor!!!

I think your are referring to the vibration damper.

Maybe you're right... But I also need a bearing puller, and time spent reading the bently and/or searching for all the tricks to make sure I get it installed right. (something about getting it in the right place...)

A lot of this stuff is trivial the *second* time you do it. But the first round can be time consuming.

But maybe you're right. I'll take a look at the Bently, and if it looks like not too much of a PITA I'll just do it.
