Neutral saftey switch harness, will I need it?

Since my 318i is manual and the 325e engine that is going in it is automatic, will I still need to get the neutral saftey switch harness from the 325 or will the car start without it?

you'll probally need it, unless you bridge the two wires so the ecu thinks it's in park all the time.

You are doing an automatic conversion? Why?

The engine in my 318 is going bad from water in the oil. I have a complete 325e engine and driveline, but the tranny is automatic. I can't afford a five speed tranny right now and this is the only car I own so i gotta go with the auto gear box for now :(

I pulled the harness for the auto shifter. looks mostly plug and play so i'm good to go now. just gotta figure out the c101 and the wiring should be over with for the major part.

Just to let anyone know. you do not need the safety harness to start the car. you need the part for power to the light on the shifter and the revers light plug thats it. If you are putting an auto tranny in a car that had a five speed like my sorry ass.

I take it a 318 tranny will not bolt up to a 325 engine?

Bolt pattern for the bellhousing is different.

yeah it won't bolt up. I plan to put a 5 speed in the car but it will be awhile before a can get the funds for it.
