    how to disconnect cruise control

i need to know how to turn it off, or what fuse to pull.

it doesnt work anymore and it randomly tries to come on (while driving, parked, car on, car off w/ key in on position) i hear a very loud chattering noise, like something is spinning and not catching in the black box under the hood.

i dont need it, so im not gonna try to fix it, i just wanna take it out.

    remove the cable....

My sparco bar touches it, so i jus removed the cable and left it there. Some guys bend it.

Its hard to describe this without some pics handy, but I will take a shot at it since I had to do the same with my IE strut bar.

Atop your throttle body you will see where there are two cables attached: one runs to your gas pedal while the other is the cruise control device. To identify which one is which, the cruise control cable has a white/beige plastic sleeve over it with an adjustment screw at the end (if memory serves me correctly this is the upper of the two cables). To remove get a small cressant (sp?) wrench or pair of pliers and loosen this adjustment screw and the pieces adjacent to it....including a threaded plastic piece as well. Take your time and do this carefully since the heat of the engine can make these plastic parts very brittle over time. Once you have loosened all the hardware, pull the cable out and re-assemble the adjustment hardware at the end of the cable so you don't loose it. Then, simply tuck the cable away in a safe area (I looped mine under the fuse box and along the fender to where my coolant recovery tank is).

              damn that sucks

mine is acting so weird, its like trying to spin (or kick on) when im parked but have the car and/or ignition on. SO i have to push in clutch or hold the brake to stop it. so i just want to take it out.

              its pretty embarassing

well since you have a 5 speed, you dont have to worry about a kickdown cable to the auto tranny so... figure out which cable goes to your gas pedal linkage, uncrew the other one. Viola.

well i really didnt want the cruise control in there so i snipped the electrical wires going into the unit and snipped the cable going into the throttle body and threw the whole unit away.

i know it wasnt the best way to do it but no more annoying clunking noise.

For future reference, its actually easy to remove. Simply look at the unit from the hood. You will see a cable from the actuator that goes to the throttle body, disconnect it. There is another cable that runs by the d.side fender then through the firewall, pull it out..
