    Restrictive Muffler

    Our Mufflers suck. So do our cats. I just removed my old beat up exhaust that had a small cat and a magnaflow muffler on it and replaced it with a full stock system with a big cat and stock muffler because my old one was so loud. The power robbing is enormous.

    I used to feel a crazy power kick around 3800rpms, and now I feel next to nothing. Either it's just as powerful but much more smooth, or it completely robbed my top end. It hink it's the latter.

    Thanks, BMW, for making such a bad stock exhaust.

    I am going to disagree across the board. Unless there was a problem with your cats/muffler (rusted out, etc) factory cats and mufflers actually flow very well.

              definately not a placebo, I can promise you that

              I wish I would have dynoed it before and after, because this butt dyno experience is huge.

              My friend got in the car after we picked it up, and before I even said anything, I hammered it through 1st, 2nd, and some of third, and he was like WOW this exhaust sucks.

              There was a serious kick around 4k that happened most noticeably int he low gears, but was still felt in 3rd. I miss it :(

                try a tune up. cars dont lose power for no reason, and sudden failing of the exhaust is highly unlikely.

                  if the stock exhaust was the most restrictive part of our motors we'd all be making 190hp with bolt ons..

                    maybe the stock exhaust I bought was just old and clogged, but sice I've thrown on this clean looking stock exhaust, my car has been robbed. Just wanted to see if anyone else agrees with me.

                      wait....could running pretty rich throw on a nice power boost in the upper RPMs? Mayeb thats what was doing it? My plugs were imporperly gapped an di had a bad O2 sensor so I was runnign WAY rich and getting a huge power kick around 4k....maybe it's not the exhaust, so much as running really rich that was giving me all the uneccessary power.

                        woudlnt' be a power kick as you described.. in fact if it was running very rich you would most likely feel a loss in power. it would feel like you are driving thorugh 4 inches of water. ("bogging")
