    325i/is/e TAIL LIGHT question

I always thought that the 'i / is' had the 3 layer taillights, but when i go to the junkyards i always see 325e body style and 2 layer taillights. I was also wondering if the 325i / is with the metal bumper like the 325e also has a short rear end. I'm asking because i was wondering if i could just swap out the Rear of a newer 325i / is with my 325e rear. That is one of the things i don't like about my 325e, is the shorter rear end. Otherwise i favor the 2 layer taillights.

The rear ends are not shorter or longer.

Actually, the late model cars have a lower valance that does extend lower.

ok not longer or shorter, i meant going vertical not horizontal.....the bottom lip of the 'i/is' are longer towards the floor.

if i understand you right, which im not quite sure i do

car with metal bumpers (older) have smaller tails (2 layers)

plastic bumper cars (newer) have bigger tails (3 layers)

the metal bumper cars have a smaller rear valence too

Thank you:) but since it has been confirmed, i planning to go to the junkyard soon and was wondering if the lower "valance" from a later model can be taken off and if so would it be possible to use to extend the earlier models like my 325e

And there is an exception to what robert said there,, my 88 325ix has metal bumpers and 3 layer tailights... I think the 88's are the one exception to the rule.. Just a factoid

Yes. 88 model E30's have the larger tails, diving board rear (slightly smaller), and the unibody rear apron.
