Where does your temp needle sit when the car is warm ?

I am just curious to see where other peoples temp needle sits when their car is fully warmed up.

Mine sits a little bit to the "cold" side of the centre mark. Is this where it is supposed to be ?

that's perfect. mine rarely creeps past the 1/2 mark if i let it sit, otherwise it stays just under it.

On my car ('91 325i), I did a cooling system overhaul in early January and I have deleted the clutch fan, installed the higher setting t-stat and run distilled water with one bottle of Redline WaterWetter. Currently we are in our winter season here in California so the outdoor temps have seldom gone above 65F (20C). As for my cars' operating temp, it stays below the 1/2 mark although it gets close to 1/2 when left idling for several minutes. I'm sure when the warmer weather arrives in the next couple months that will change but I don't expect it to be too much of an issue.

Where I will get concerned is track day events. By the time summer gets here I want to have installed a Spahl puller cooling fan with a dash mounted switch. That shoud keep the temps in check when I'm exercising the car.

around 1/4th  Ever since doing the m30 swap it runs cold. Will creap to 1/2 when idiling for a very long time at drivethrews. I'm hoping during the summer it runs warmer.

Can't this cause issues ? Maybe your fan clutch is broken ?

Mine creeps to the middle mark after a long idle as well, and I ahve jsut replaced my water pump. hoses, flushed coolant, new thermostat, etc.

As soon as I start moving agian it will go down to the 1/4 mark, I'm hoping it stays liek this through the summer.

1/4 /w no mechanical fan (no fan at all actually)

If i sit at idle, and still for ~10 mins or so it will work up to 1/2.

                        that's normal.
If the thermo was stuck open, the car would stay cool - and if it was stuck closed, you'd know because the car would be overheating.

Mine sits inbetween 1/4 and 1/2. I've let her idle for a bit, and nothing really changes (maybe nudges closer to 1/2).
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.
