Mine steering wheel used to shake at 80km/h. Put in some new e36 control arm bushings and now its as good as new. :D

that was my issue. the control arms were shifting/wobbling, etc.

jack up the car so the tire is just touching the ground and try to pull the wheel. see if it moves. if it does, something is wrong. and might be the CABs.

Yeah it can be many things suspension related. The best thing to do is to start with the wheels/tires. If its not noticeable till 100 then its something small and harmonic. Check balance/round and then move onto suspension. Mine ended up being the rear mounts/bushings. Mine did it about 80mph.

BTW, my brick is butter smooth and fairly quiet up to 150.
                      Im now E30less.

couldn't it also be a wheel bearing?

yeah it coudl be a wheel bearing but those usualy accompany noises too, and perhaps wheel wobble but its worth checking.

CABs or Ball joints. depends on in which way it moves. I think perpendicular to the plane of the wheel well (in / out of it) is CABs. Front/back is ball joints.

                              *i think*
