What's the best short shift kit to use?

I thought the z3 1.9 wasn't notchy, and the 3.0 one was?

I could be mistaken then. I don't have one either but have driven around 3 cars with them, including my friend's new e30 who also has it.

I have no idea what I have because when I bought the car, the guy never told me about the shifter. I just remember that as I started the car up to drive home, his sister asked "did you tell him about the shifter?" and the seller was like "SHHHHHH!!!!" :hitler:

Either way it's short as hell and super notchy. Definitely some type of Z4 shifter.

I like the shortness but I hate the notchy-ness. There's times when the damn thing doesn't want to come out of gear so I have to pull the shit out ridiculously hard. I want to get something else but I don't want to give up the über short throw. :(

my UUC definitely requires deliberate throws, and high shift effort. it takes some getting used to, and I can't shift super fast just yet. i also have the shifter height set at full to get extra leverage. a weighted knob also helps to reduce the notchiness. i have the weighted M knob. upgrading to a heavier UUC knob will help more.

im using the z3 1.9 shifter, and i like like it. :)

yes..me too...

however, i also ;
removed the harmonic balancer
replaced all bushings
replaced the elbow from selector rod to tranny.

i might want a little shorter, but its a massive improvement, and i always know what gear im in.

best 40 bucks i spent.

How much and was any mode needed to use it? I've also found that I need specific parts since mine is an '84. Seems like '86 to '91 has more options.

It was 90 bucks at bmaparts... it comes with all the washers and that plastic piece that i dont know the name 2. keep in mind that the z4 3.0 has 55% shorter throws =]

using a z3 1.9. notchy, but i love it. perfect DD use, although reverse is sometimes stubborn with it.
