    whatever you say. skid plates are a waste of money as almost every single one available is not a 1/4" thick which would be the bare minimum to stop a direct blow. on top of that, you have less clearance which means it'll hit and be pushed into your pan. you obviously have no idea as you aren't low enough to know. i've seen just as many pans crack with skidplates as i've seen w/o. they are pointless.

    anyway, i got a better idea. hello custom oilpan. i will be making my car lower than your mum :D

      How would you do it properly? The CSB would need to be raised, which would require moving the entire center unibody section up, which is a structural support area. It would also require moving the entire rear end up, and probably butchering your axle shaft angles. But I'm guessing you don't care about that, since you want your bumper to touch the ground.

      A skid plate would have prevented the 2 cracked oil pans I got due to metal debris on the road. So no, they are not pointless.

        i done arguing about the skid plates. if you believe it helps, by all means use one.....................i take it no one here fabricates anything? or at least challenges themselves? just saying, anything can be done.

          This coming from a person who opened a thread saying "does someone fabricate anything to lift the engine for an extra 1/2"-1" of clearance?" If you can't make yourself a set of motor mounts, you can't bust anyones balls for not wanting to modify the entire driveline and chassis mounting points so their car can be lower.

          If you want to raise your engine, do it. We told you your driveline angle will be jacked. You said you'd make a custom oil pan. So do it. I told you you'll need to fabricate a new oil pump. Get to fabricating!

          I challenge myself, just not on making my car retardedly low and making the car weaker and more vulnerable at the same time. I like driving it to it's fullest ability, not watching it sit in a parking lot at the stancewerks shows. ;)

              Uh. My car is retardly low and my skid plate has saved me numerous times. Every time we get it on a lift for something, we all chuckle at the grooves/marks/scrapes it has on it.

              And no skid plate is going to save you going 100mph into a rock embedded in the road if that's what you're getting at..

                my car is slammed, and my shocks are shot, and i havent busted my pan. its a m42 car as well. i dont think a skid plate is a good idea for me because id scrape even more.


                knowing how to drive is 6748643740645630 times better than any skidplate.

                            i meant for the thinner oilpan with a shortened mount oil pickup which means the engine stays put.

                              here is what you do.

                              you take the oil pan and the pick up. tell a professional that you want to shorten the oil pan and the pick up. you would have to know the exact angle of the pick up so they are both shortened the same amount.

                              you also widen the bottom of the oil pan so you don't lose any capacity. you can even pick up extra capacity. you will also need to put in those splash guards (i think they are called) since the bottom will have much larger surface area. this is the best way i can think of. it takes work but if done correctly should be perfect.

                              can anyone foresee a problem with this idea? or add any suggestions because this is what i plan to do.
