E28 3.25Diff LSd will bolt in my e30 Turbo?

    Probably I have the chance to swapp a 3.25 LSD diff from a e28 528i '83 in my e30 that has 3.75LSD.

My question is, will bolt the differential and ring & pinion in my stock e30 diff case? Because I know that won't fit directly the whole diff box since has different supports, I'm right?

URGENT please, since that e28 is from a customer and he will sell the car and he let me do that only if it will fit with out major problems.

    Thanks

I would post this question on http://www.mye28.com/ in the forum.

The diff. case is the same as the e30 one, just swap the rear covers and the output flanges for the half-shafts and it will bolt right in.

        I just noticed it, thanks!

And also, noticed that is 3.45 Ratio, now, my question is, willw orth swapp for my 3.73 or just keep searching for a 3.25?

God dam! The diff doesn't fit, I mean the shitty box is different! Who said is direct swapp and just change the CV joints and the cover??  :?

Now , my question is, will bolt the ring-diff & pinion in my case?? Are interchnagable?

The left one is the e28 diff case.

Don't know what to tell you, I put a 3.45 lsd in my '87 eta that came from an '88 528e auto. Apparently some e28s have different box designs.

I know many others who have done the same.

This reminds me of the "small case" & "big case" scenario with some E30 diffs. I wonder if a similar situation applies for E28s :?:

unless you know how to set pinion loads and depth, you wont be able to swap the pinion, and the ring is no good without the pinion, dont bother man. you'll end up fucking up both diffs.

I agree with Jonathan 90 M3. I swapped a 3.25LSD into my 86 325es from the 2.93 and all that was needed was the E30 rear cover and output shafts. But if you say it doesn't fit, then I guess it doesn't fit. I would be interested in hearing an official answer on this.

OFFICIALLY:: the e28 diff DOES fit with an e30 cover and output flanges, OFICIALLY!

diego, must not be an e28 diff, you must be mistaken.

Dan, we have the tools and stuff to swapp the diff and pinion in the other case, but I really didn't want to mess with messuring the tooths and contact.

I just decided to look for another one, from any e30 out there.

Yes, I can make this oficially! Some e28 cases, like this case won't fit as you can see in the pic, and NO, I'm not mistaken about if is a e28 or soemhtign else, I took it right down from a e28 525i 83 (originally was 533i)

You have a small case diff there in your E30
                          I am personally running a 3.25 LSD from a E28,

might be going for a 3.15 diff I have, just have to put the lsd in it

the E28 535is diff has a larger case then all other E28 diffs
the 533i and 528e diffs are the ones that will fit with the cover and flange swap.

There's three sizes of differentials that I know of in our era BMW's

                              small E30 4 cyl.
                              medium E24/E28/E30 6 cyl E30 M3
                              large M Cars, 8cyl and, 12cyl

                              That looks like a large...
Obviously there's a bunch of exceptions to the list above - I'm running a 1985 535i LSD in my e30 - I just had to swap the rear cover and the axle stubs.
