In case you don't know, I have a 3.0L stroker w/ an E36 328i MAF and Unichip piggyback. Ever since the stroker was completed I've been trying to sort out a good intake, taking into consideration that I live in the tropics w/ annual high humidity and temp's of around 89-94 everyday. Also, a 3" inlet/outlet was needed to fit w/ the MAF and aluminum elbow. I have tried various cone intakes with and without heatshielding and was not satisfied.
Recently a pal (6 Piston) found an enclosed carbon fiber barrel type intake, a cone filter element inside, and 3" inlet/outlets. He dyno'd his car before installation and just after. The dyno showed a 4-6rwhp increase w/ this intake. His dyno was done with the bonnet down and a blower turned on, attempting to create a real world driving environment.
Anyhow, this peaked my interest so I asked him to get one for me and I am quite pleased with the results. Although I have yet to dyno mine, I can definitely feel the difference when leaving traffic lights. Aesthetically, it is obviously more pleasing to the eye than cones and heatshields/boxes. Of course, the great intake sound of an MAF & cone are gone....but I prefer performance over sound......afterall the 3.0L exhaust note is still there :)
No idea what filter element is used inside, but I do know it is re-usable like a K&N. I will later disassemble it to see if a K&N can fit.
On with the pics.......but please excuse the filthy engine bay.....driving for a over a year with both rear headlamp covers off doesn't help
