Not sure but I noticed mine went much quicker once they were installed, with no other changes. I assume it relates to the increased heat and more rapid flow across the 02 sensor. They're much thinner than normal manifolds, so I assume less heat is dispersed into the manifold casting, and they flow better, meaning whatever additional heat is carried is moving more rapidly across the sensor. Maybe someone else has a better explanation for it.

MSDS are inexpensive, and will provide a noticeable gain at the end of the rpm range. Just be prepared to blow thru 02 sensors quickly. I'm not sure I'd do much else except a chip and exhaust. The cone filter is only worthwhile if it is well insulated from the rest of the engine bay, otherwise, it will do more harm than good.
Ove from bmwe30.net said that (the heatshield) will only make a difference when you going really slow 5mph. After that, air passes through the engine so the it's not just sucking in hot air. This is what I believe. What does everyone else think.

What word would you like us to us? They do adapt.

in a very limited way. the ECU can't "adapt" to larger injectors, it can only sense the richer mixture and reduce the duty cycle. it won't take advantage of the extra fuel and give you more power though.

I'm thinking of doing the BMP Mas Air conversion, Big Bore throtlebody, 19# injectors,AFR,and maybe a Cam. Will that yield me 200 HP(HEHE) I already have the intake,Chip and Ansa exhaust.

But really guys lighten up. there was alot of harsh words thrown around. Cant we just all get along.

Rb, that should do it. Well, what do you want to use the car for? I was going to do those things a long time ago, but I thought for the same money I can do an engine swap.

I don't think the heat within the engine bay is an issue as much as the hot air within the headers. I would think the thicker and heavier manifolds act as a heat sink, whereas headers just pass it all through the exhaust, causing it to run much hotter. I've heard the cat burns out much quicker as well.

I'd just like to say that 200hp out of an m20 without internal mods and an AFM is a ridiculous claim, no matter how well it runs. That puts it ahead of a DOHC 6 cylinder (m50).

That will not get you 200hp on a internally stock m20. Nor with a cam etc.

you are not going to get 200hp with a 2.5 bottom end

                      X2theZ3 is a moron.

Now that ive read through most of the arguing

What are the "Best Performance mods for the buck"?

p.s. I figured it would be easier to just list them instead of having to read through the flaming.

The best performace mod for the buck is always the same, in any given car.

It provides wonder gains in acceleration, braking, and all aspects of handling

Its gain to cost ratio is lower then anything else you can buy!

                          Ready for this???

                          Add lightness.
