    95's are 3.0L OBD-I with 240hp
    96+ are 3.2L OBD-II with 240hp.

fantastic. well, i guess 95 w/ obd-1 would be the way to go. less emissions crap all in it... easier to do stuff to (?) thanks for the info.

There is some work involved, but just swaping out the OBD II stuff to OBD I on the S52 motor wakes things up considerably. From my understanding just the coversion alone takes you from 240bhp to somewhere around 270-ish. I know someone who is doing this conversion along with Schrick cams and custom software. Expected output is going to be +/-300bhp. Said motor is going into an '88 M3 (purists take your commentary elsewhere). From a tuning standpoint, the OBD I cars are the way to go....a lot simpler. Also, on the later E36 cars, the slave cylinder which works the hydraulic clutch has a mechanism which limits the speed of engagement/disengagement. So even if you try to do a quick shift (say 2nd to 3rd), the clutch will only do its part at a pre-determined speed set by the factory....its all in the name of smoother operation since the posers don't like an aggressive clutch (and that's who ///M listens to these days, not the true enthusiasts). I'm not sure if there's an aftermarket upgrade for this or not.

I know if I were in the market for an E36 M3, my preference would be to seek out the best example of a 1995 model that I could find/afford. Not to mention, those cars are 10 years old now and depreciation has set it for these cars. A performance bargain if you're patient in waiting for the right car to come along at a good price.

yeh, i work at the bmw dealership, so we get alot of trade ins, but the wholesale manager (trade in manager) says he hasnt seen any in a while, but he'll keep a good lookout for me.. which would be great, b/c if i buy it via the dealership, get at dealer cost (yay) he says if we did get a nice trade in, then that year (or there round) wouldn;t be much more then 70 to 8 grand max.. i was like.... OK!...... hehe

I recently intstalled a 3.2 long block into a 95 OBD1 body using all the OBD1 parts such as manifolds and etc; he did a little over 250 at the wheels with no other mods.
