    Engine is Toasted, Advice?

So after driving on the freeway the other night my engine decides to take a shit on me.

After pulling off the head today I find this:

Since the block is messed up I have to find a new motor of choice.

I already have a m52 engine of out a 323 '97, but I am unsure if the cost for all the parts needed to install it would cost the same as buying another m42.

What do you guys think? Swap? Replace? Anyone seeing the parts I need for the swap? Anyone know the actual parts i need for the swap? An complete motors for sale out there?

It depends on how good of a deal you get on the swap parts. It will be close I think. I vote swap the 24v in there stat, the extra powa is worth the money if it costs more in the end.

on the piston one side is darker then the other. look like the darker side took more beating.

You've got an M52 sitting around already. Even if the swap costs the same or slightly more than another gutless M42, seems to me your decision should be a very easy one my friend. :)

Piston on right side is burnt, the top part (bottom of picture) is melted off exposing the piston rings

But how did the thing manage to pull that off ..?

If you have the money and time do the 24v swap...replacing the m42 will be way simpler and cost less then going 24v though, even if you already have an m52.

Just driving it on the freeway and didnt notice it smoking since i was >60mph. I did notice some power lost so i exited. As I exited the freeway coming to a stop light, all my warning lights came on and then died. I dont exactly what caused it but the piston shows that it failed. The cylinder for the 3 piston was scratched up.

I guess the m52 sounds good, but now i need to find a needle in the hay stack for all the parts that I need.

Anyone have any of those parts?
