I have a 154 ecu in an iS car

So far from what I have been looking around there are 4 ecu numbers that companies make chips for 153 173 and a few more. When I went to check what ecu my car had it had a 154 ecu. I have only found 154 ecus on eta cars but my car is an iS. Could someone tell me wtf is going on? :|

Pick up a used 173 ECU, people sell them stupid cheap sometimes.

Could that explain why my car acts a little funny around 5000rpm? and are there any other things what would go wrong with the super eta ecu powering my m20b25

are you sure you have an M20B25? it could be a misbaged e.. sounds more likely than an i motor running on an e computer.

I am sure it is a I car because I have ran the vin on the bmw decoder several times. Also the 7k tach. And my car is a 5/87, a year before the super etas came out (atleast i think so)(If it is a misbadged E you will see me on the news)

Grab a 173/380/525 DME and swap it in. The 154 has a 5300 rpm revlimit which is too low for an i engine. You're missing out on the top end. Should be able to find an i DME locally for about $100-150 if you really shop around.

I just went out to my car about 15 minutes ago and left it in neutral reved it to redline and it limited me at 5300. So now my adventure is finding a new 173 or 153 ecu. Anyone wanna sell me one? or would I be able to put a 153 chip into the 154 computer? It would just let me buy a conforti chip or something

No, don't mix and match ECU chips.

Buy the right ECU, and leave it be. They're under $100 for sure, cheap. I'd be more concerned of how the hell the previous owner never noticed that the redline was 5300, or if they did why are they shady enough to hide it.

I may have a DME for you and I'm local. Check your PM's.
