using the auxillary fan as the primary cooling fan?

Longish story short, I need a new fan, clutch, and shroud. right now my aux fan is on whenever the key is in the on position.

If my plan touse the car as a daily driver and do some mountain driving when it warms up, would doing an AC delete, fixing the wiring for the aux fan and just getting rid of the old fan be enough to cool the motor on a hot summerday?

I wired a switch on my dash that runs the aux fan. I went with no normal fan for years, turned it on when it got just over 1/2...no worries, even on 100 degree days in traffic.

I did for a couple years, you don't need to rewire anything, just swap out the thermoswitch for an 80/88c version.

I only did because I was having cooling system issues and wanted manual control.

Agreed, you dont need to do shit to the system. The stock switch will turn on the fan at about the red mark on the gauge, and will cool it to about halfway. Swap for the 80c switch for more leeway (early eta's use two separate switches for the fan). in the mean time, the fan WILL come on if you switch on the AC through the dash switch. I use this as a backup, and to switch the fan on if it gets close to the 3/4 mark if I am in traffic.
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

The wiring for the aux fan is a little messed up from a small fire (hence needing a new fan and shroud) ill have to go in with electrical tape and maybe a new sensor, but at least I wont have to buy new stuff when I can put the money to other areas of the car.

              thanks for the advice.
