Freeze 12 is your friend. It uses the R12 system, legal, and cheap.

I converted mine over to R134 last weekend. Just change the drier out and you should be good to go.

IIRC, you also need to check and make sure your ac compressor is capable of using the R134 too.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but certain compressor (newer model e30) can handle both R12 and R134 and some can't. I think there's a thread about it somewhere in the forum. I'm pretty sure if you search, you'll find your answer.

Oh, and if you have access and experience to an A/C machine, I recommend pulling vacuum for 30 minutes, inject oil (1 or 2 oz should do), then charge up a little over 2 lbs of R134 and you should be good to go.

As usual leave it to a noob to answer with a stupid nonsense reply.
Get ur facts checked before you post a stupid reply.

Your best option would be to use Hot Shot with your existing system imo. It is 100% compatible with the e30 compressor and expansion valve and designed to be a drop in replacement for r12.

The system first needs to be charged with dry nitrogen in order to find leaks. If your system has been non-operational for a while it'd also be a good idea to replace the filter drier assy. with a new one. After leaks have been located/fixed you'll need to use a vacuum pump to pull the system down to at least a 1000 micron vacuum, at which time you can recharge it using Hot Shot.

Bear in mind this info is only good if your problem is simply that you've lost your refrigerant charge. There are other problems that could cause your a/c to quit working.

You can, but it won't work well at all. Provided your R12 system is/was functioning properly, it'll work if you just put R134a in. Ideally you should replace your receiver/dryer.

The biggest problem is that the compressor is undersized for use with R134a.

                            Just find R12.

You do refrigeration work? The only sensible option exposed on any forum about r12 options. Smart.
