I'm replacing the dash and was wondering if it's no big deal to replace the heater core gasket with regular foam weatherstripping from the Home Depot or should I buy the $35 special order part that takes 2 weeks to get here?

a) honestly - i don't see why it wouldn't work. Just the time it would take to trim/fit/adhere
and
b) two weeks? really? Have you tried contacting Blunttech?
When it's said and done, I'm the type of guy that would rather use factory parts when possible - but I can see where you're coming from though too..

If it works, use the weather stripping from home depot. Hopefully you won't do this job again for a long long time anyway."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
