quick question for ppl with Ground Control

Hey guys just a quick question (aron thanks for the pic) i have the front all the way down so basically it wont go lower. now for shows and things like that i wanna be able to drop the car another 1"-1.5" can i reweld the perch. As you can see the red is where my purch is welded ( where the old one used to be) now the blue line is where i would like to weld it so that i can go lower, anyone things that will be an ok idea??

You can, but it is basically worthless without getting shorter inserts (and then cutting a 'portion' out of the strut tube and welding the threaded top part back on). The car will literally ride on the bumpstops (with your springs doing hardly anything) and it probably won't even compress much more, just as much as the internal bumpstops will allow.

I know...but I'm not sure how much lower the car would go still, since it'd be sitting on the Bilstein bumpstops. Food for thought.

When race cars want to be lower and have the same amount of shock/spring travel, they cut the struts. Just take it to a qualified welder and cut the actual struts below the spring perch and cut off .5-1" then reweld. Or you could just re-lower the spring perch for lowering at shows (since you dont drive too much at shows).

But then the standard sized strut insert would stick out of the housing. You need a shorter insert.

you have bilsteins sports rite? i think for a shortened strut tube, they look fairly long. ive got them too. i have yet to cut my spring perches tho. I think the farthest you can go depends on the length of the strut tube. like said earlier. i think the only way to go lower is to remount the strut tower. like done on lowrider mini trucks with hydraulics. they would raise the strut tower. just as a deeper strut tower hat would (for a few mills)
the only other possible way is to re mount the strut tube. maybe make another mounting bracket closer to the middle of the strut housing. which would be alot of werk just for slamming it at shows. my friend just removed his springs for shows. or put in cut (very short) stock springs.

When you buy Koni's from GC, they are like 4" shorter than the strut tube. Then you run a 4" spacer in the bottom of the strut tube. If you cut 2" off of the top of the strut tube, you could cut 2" off the spacer, and I guess you'd get 2" more shock travel??

If you move the perch don't you have to worry about your tires rubbing your springs?
I'm guessing your wide rims come pretty close to the strut. On my car there isn't that much room.

Just get a shorter spring for shows!! They come in different lengths.

A shorter spring will lower the car, You might have 7in springs, you can get 5-6in springs.
