Going to 3/4 of the way you are probably going to blow your headgasket and crack or warp your head sooner or later. It should never go past 1/2.

Budget Beater: why not invest in an electric fan instead of a better radiator? The E30 radiators are quite capable.

Like Jordan said, you are basically SOL if you are ever stock in traffic. Is it really worth the risk of the damage done from overheating just for a couple HP?

Let's drive fast and have fun.

So it turns out that my Fan Clutch is bad and dealer wants $200 alone for a new fan. I figured since im gonna need a new fan, why not go with an electric one. Anyone know the cfm's of the stock fan?

Actually, just found these fans on summit racing and jegs: http://www.permacool.com/Catalog/Cat_page16.html
At the top of the page it says 6 cylinder engines generally require ~2000 cfm fans. So I figure that the 14" or 16" should do just fine. Might have to do this, but with winter here shortly, this isnt exactly a time critical job.

Just to add some info...my Brother's E30 Alpina has no engine fan, and just runs the A/C electric fan at high speed. It works fine so long as you don't get stuck in traffic on a hot day.

Just last week I removed my engine driven fan, and installed a OEM electric fan (puller) between the radiator and the engine.

I used the fan from a 2004 Mini Cooper S. Spliced the e30 Aux fan connector onto it, and plugged it right in.

Lo speed comes on when the back side of the needle is even with the half mark. Hi speed comes on a needles width past that.

Works wonders. I'll take a picture soon when I get around to it I'll post it.
