    check the alternator light?

im troubleshooting a charging system problem, and the bentley told me to check the alternator light on the instrument panel. the problem is, i dont have an alternator light on the instrument panel, and no one i know seems to have one either. any ideas as to where it might be located, or did bentley make a really big typo?

It's not in the check panel but the instrument cluster...it's the little battery light. It comes on when the battery isn't being charged by the alternator. If you're cluster is a pre 86, a bad "battery light" bulb will cause the alternator to not charge the battery. Later clusters, were updated with a type of bypass circuit that got rid of the problem.

I think they all do it actually.. I had an 88 cluster that did it too.

If your warning light is burned out or missing it won't charge,
