    need help bolt broke

hey guys im doing an engine swap with an s50 into a 1986 325e. the engine is on a stand right now as i prepare to pull the m20 out of the e30. ive been taking off a couple parts off the s50 to get them powdercoated and when taking off the passenger side e36 mounting arm the bottom left bolt snapped and i need help getting it out. i also have a broken bolt on the thermostat housing and have tried using bolt extractors but have had no luck. ihave not tried using the extractor on the e36 arm bolt because i have a crappy set of extractors and am not good with them.

if there is anyone willing to help me i would be gladly appreciated ive been pulling my hair out over this and could use some experienced help with getting this bolt out. i live in central nj east brunswick to be exact.

i would gladly throw some money to anyone willing to help. here is the bolt that broke that i need help with it looks like it sticking out a bit.

    really easy to fix.

    1 remove mount
2 heat/ cutting wheel/ patience to remove bolt if its seized
3 chase threads and thread in new hardware

You'll need some penetrant, a reverse drill bit, and a square extractor. Take the broken half of the bolt to a tool supply place and they'll set you up.

Take off the engine mount arm, it looks like you'll be able to grab that one and turn it out with vise grips.

A lot of people and companies call them Left handed drill bits too.

          Work fantastically easy

i don't think that will work. if it was that easy, there wouldn't be a broken bolt in there.

I have no clue if this could even work but could you unbolt the rest of the screws and twist the motor mount off the broken bolt? and then pb blast it and use vise grips to ease it out?

This is your friend. A rotor retainer nut broke off somehow and this got it out in literally under two minutes.

you drill a small hole with the provided bit into the broken bolt, then hammer the extractor into it till its stuck, and drill it out in reverse. Make sure to use some pb blaster and tap it with a hammer before doing anything to break it free a little.

^^^^ thats the way to go. but start w a center punch. get a good set point in the center of the broken bolt. then step drill it carefully one size at a time. till you get to the biggest size it can take. i broke a head bolt in my block and was able to get it out using this method

Yep, honestly alot of the time, the left hand bit will get it done without extractor.

                          they work awesome.

I can't tell how far it's countersunk, but if you're competant with a welder you can try welding a bolt onto the broken stud and using a wrench. But definitely soak the shit out of it with penetrant before trying to remove.

A 50/50 mixture of acetone and automatic trans fluid is the best penetrating oil. Motor Trend did a test a while back and found it to work better then any other off the shelf penetrant, including PB Blaster. Heat will help a lot too if you have a torch.
