starter noisy after 5 spd swap

just completed 5 spd swap in my 88 super eta. when turning the starter it squeals and when the engine is running it sounds like the teeth are still making some contact with the flywheel. anyway to shim if necessary or what can i do. i dont wanna go with the well it will wear in theory, really wanna do it the right way. thanks in advance.

I don't know what your problem is but there should be no noise and no need for shimmied it or anything like that.

thats what i thought. maybe the starter just isnt fully disengaging then?

either your starter is bad or you messed up the flywheel/something in the tranny (maybe you forgot to put something in?). just hope it's the starter. you can have them tested for free at most auto parts stores..

im thinking its shims. most common mistake is to pull things apart, and not really pay attention to what came out with the starter. I would try getting some spacers, and seeing if that fixes it.
