wiper help

My wipers have been dead since I bought my 87 325e and the relay tested okay according to the bentley.

Today I swapped in another motor and now the wipers go up maybe a 1/4" and then go back down. What could be causing this?

I was going to change the switch but if they move some could it be the switch?

your linkage could be partially seized due to it sitting for a long time. Remove the air intake vents and panel to the linkage. spray some Crown or equivalent lube on the hinges and pivot points. Sounds like the pivot at the motor is seizing...

My wipers are being little bitches when on the 'intermittent' setting. They'll go maybe 1/2 way up, pause, go the rest of the way, pause, then come back down. Same if I tap the lever down for 1-wipe. And every time I drive the car they choose a new place (or two) to pause. I set them to normal speed or hold the lever down, they work perfect. Que?

sounds like the intermittent wiper relay is on its way out.

How do you access the linkage?

You remove the air intake vents on the cowl right below the windshield and the panel that covers the blower motor.

I dunno..I thought my explanation was pretty self explanatory? sorry for the redundant redundancies.

most people don't realize that periodically lubing the linkage pivot points is necessary to prolong the life of the linkage and to prevent unnecessary strain on the wiper motor. That is why one or the other or both fail. keep them lubed will never allow the linkage to wear out. I mean, after 20+ years you finally need a wiper linkage should tell you about its durability?

Take as many covers off as you can to have access to the linkage and have a can of lube with the extension tip so that you can isolate where you want to spray..see if that free's it up. you may need to do this a few times before it lets up. If not..then you'll need to remove it and possibly replace it.

What type of lube is best for this? I have never heard of crown so I am not sure what is comparable. Sound it just be silicon?

I think you have to remove the blower motor to remove the wiper assembly. But if you jut want to inspect your assembly, just pop off the two vents.

Do you know for sure if this motor worked? New motor? or New to you motor?

We get this all the time.... "I just put a new motor in and it doesnt work"
